Kroger has closed down its online marketplace, Kroger Ship, an online selling platform for third-party merchants, according to a statement on their website.
The grocer debuted Kroger Ship in 2018 for shoppers to purchase groceries from third-party sellers and private-label products.
In 2020, the grocery chain teamed up with e-commerce developer Mirakl to expand Kroger Ship to third-party merchants that offered over 50,000 additional items on the website.
According to a message on the website, the retailer shut down the online marketplace in March 2025. Further information on the reason behind the decision has not been disclosed.
Additionally, in March, the grocer expanded the role of its CIO, Yael Cosset, with the aim of strengthening its e-commerce business.
The grocery retailer aims to expand its omnichannel strategies to generate profitability and earned $13 billion in e-commerce sales in 2024.
Ron Sargent, CEO and chairman of Kroger, said: “Accelerating Kroger’s ecommerce growth is a top priority.
“As the architect of Kroger’s digital strategy, Yael will continue to make it easier for customers to shop for our fresh, affordable food.”
The grocer has been undergoing leadership transformation recently, with Joe Kelley being named as the new SVP of retail divisions while former Ahold Delhaize USA executive Rudy DiPietro was tapped as the new president of Kroger’s Dallas Division.
The retailer is also still actively seeking a new CEO after Rodney McMullen’s sudden resignation after internal investigations.
Kroger currently operates over 2,700 different stores under its banners across the US.
