Kroger appoints former Ahold Delhaize executive to lead Dallas division

Rudy DiPietro has been named president of Kroger’s Dallas Division, effective 29 March.

He will succeed Keith Shoemaker, who is retiring after nearly 48 years with the supermarket chain.

DiPietro joins Kroger from Ahold Delhaize USA, where he accumulated over 20 years of experience in various leadership roles.

Most recently, he served as vice president of omnichannel planning and execution, overseeing digital and in-store integration across the company’s five US banners.

He previously led omnichannel operations for Stop & Shop, previously holding the position of senior vice president of sales and operations at the Northeast-based grocer.

“Rudy brings a wealth of experience in the grocery industry, with a proven track record of driving operational excellence, fostering innovation, and delivering exceptional customer experiences, said Valerie Jabbar, senior vice president of retail divisions at Kroger.

“His leadership will play a critical role in elevating our business and our growth strategy in Dallas.”

Shoemaker, who took on the role of Dallas Division president in 2021, has held multiple leadership positions at Kroger since joining the company in 1977.

His tenure included serving as vice president of merchandising for the division starting in 2017.

Kroger’s leadership transition comes at a pivotal time, as the retailer navigates a competitive Dallas market and restructures its executive team following the collapse of its planned merger with Albertsons.

The company is also searching for a new CEO after Rodney McMullen’s sudden departure earlier this month, following an internal investigation that revealed his personal conduct violated company ethics.
