Aldi is piloting a new store concept in the U.S. as part of a broader effort to modernise its global retail footprint while maintaining its low-cost operating model.
Developed in partnership with Landini Associates, the redesigned format is built to be “modularly adaptable,” allowing it to flex across different store sizes, layouts and building types in multiple markets.
The concept is intended to work across Aldi South Group’s key regions, including the U.S., Australia, Germany, Hofer markets and the U.K. and Ireland, creating a consistent but flexible global store model.
The redesign builds on a 14-year collaboration focused on refreshing Aldi’s in-store experience while preserving the operational simplicity that underpins its value positioning.
Trials began in late 2025 at Promenade Shoppes in Aventura, with further rollout planned throughout 2026.
The move comes as Aldi continues to expand aggressively in the U.S., particularly in Florida, where it has been growing through both new store openings and acquisitions, including its 2024 agreement to purchase hundreds of stores from Southeastern Grocers.
The new format aligns with Aldi’s broader growth ambitions. The retailer plans to open more than 180 new U.S. stores in 2026 as it works toward a target of 3,200 locations by 2028.
It is also investing in infrastructure, with plans to open three new distribution centres over the next three years to support its expanding footprint.
Part of Aldi South Group, the company operates more than 7,500 stores across 11 markets globally, including over 2,600 locations in the U.S., positioning it as one of the fastest-growing grocery chains in the market.
