Target is eliminating roughly 500 positions across its store district and supply chain operations as it redirects funding toward frontline labor and in-store execution.
The retailer is cutting about 100 store district-level roles and 400 supply chain positions, according to an internal email shared with Retail Dive.
The changes come as Target consolidates store districts and standardizes its supply chain field operating model.
“For our stores and supply chain teams at the center of delivering that experience, we’re making some changes to strengthen our frontline by simplifying our organizational structures,” Chief Stores Officer Adrienne Costanzo and Chief Supply Chain and Logistics Officer Gretchen McCarthy wrote in a Monday email to employees.
The restructuring will allow Target to put “significantly more payroll” into stores, primarily through additional labor hours where demand is greatest, as well as new guest experience training for store teams, the executives said.
Impacted employees have been notified and will receive transition support.
The move follows approximately 1,000 corporate layoffs last year as Target continues efforts to streamline operations and improve customer experience at the store level.
