Amazon has announced its plans to grow its data centers in the US by investing $20 million in Pennsylvania to develop its data center facilities that will support advanced AI technology.
The first campuses are set to be built in Salem Township and Falls Township, with future plans for expansion in various Pennsylvania communities underway.
Its new investment will bring around 1,250 jobs, according to the company, including the roles of data center engineers, network specialists, and construction workers to support the development of the buildings.
David Zapolsky, Amazon’s chief global affairs and legal officer, said in an online blog post: “Amazon’s multi-billion-dollar investment in Pennsylvania reinforces our dedication to advancing AI innovation while creating lasting economic opportunities in the state.
“By expanding our cloud computing infrastructure, we’re investing in Pennsylvania’s future through new jobs, workforce development programs, and community initiatives. We look forward to helping drive the next generation of technology innovation while delivering meaningful benefits for Pennsylvania residents.”
Amazon has been making strategic decisions to build up its data center infrastructure, with other projects under development in North Carolina, Georgia, and Ohio.
The e-commerce giant has been making moves to invest in automation drive technology across its operations.
Amazon recently launched a warehouse robot to push automation and efficiency in its supply chain.
An Amazon spokesperson said: “Our robotics solutions are designed to automate tasks in an effort to continue improving safety, reducing repetition, and freeing our employees up to deliver for customers in more skilled ways.”
The e-commerce giant also launched an AI-powered audio tool, which helps with product descriptions.
