Walmart has expanded its payment methods by introducing a Tap to Pay option at select stores and Sam’s Club locations.
The supermarket retailer plans to expand to all US stores and clubs by the end of 2026 and fuel stations by mid-2027.
The Tap to Pay allows customers to give customers a familiar and convenient way to pay at checkout using contactless payment methods.
As part of the new feature, shoppers will be able to add their eligible Walmart, Sam’s Club, and OnePay cards to their digital wallets, which gives a convenient method for them to use their cards.
The new expansion allows customers to pick up groceries, gifts, or everyday essentials using their eligible contactless card, phone, or smartwatch.
This move is part of a broader effort to make customers managing and using their money easier. Walmart aims to simplify the checkout process and offer more convenience for shoppers.
Walmart aims to grow its financial services to help customers and members manage their money and everyday financial needs, which includes options to save, build credit, and pay in flexible timings.
At the Sam’s Club stores, Walmart members can also use the Scan & Go to scan and pay as they shop, which enables them to skip the traditional checkout line.
Tap to Pay marks a major addition to the other payment options already offered, such as cash, credit card, or Walmart Pay, where customers can also access fuel savings.
This comes after the company recently achieved a milestone of opening its 100th EV charging site in Colorado.
