Amazon is developing artificial intelligence software for humanoid robots that could one day replace human delivery drivers, according to a report from The Information.
Citing a source familiar with the matter, the outlet said the tech giant is already constructing a “humanoid park”, an indoor obstacle course at its San Francisco office, to begin testing the robots soon.
While Amazon is reportedly using third-party hardware for now, it is focused on building the underlying AI systems that would power the machines.
The initiative is part of Amazon’s broader strategy to inject more automation and AI into its logistics operations, from warehouses to the last mile.
The report comes the same day Amazon unveiled a series of AI-driven advancements across its fulfilment and delivery infrastructure, touting improvements in speed and efficiency across its supply chain.
