Warby Parker launches AI assistant and announces partnership with Google

Warby Parker, a direct-to-consumer brand, has announced the launch of its AI shopping assistant tool, Warby Parker Advisor, which is designed to offer personalized guidance to customers.

The tool was made in collaboration with digital creative agency Kettle, which leverages Warby Parker’s AI technology to offer an in-store experience to customers via phone.

After a facial scan on the application, customers will receive personalized recommendations for which products to choose.

The company has been ramping up its tech initiatives, previously launching a virtual try-on and a virtual vision test.

Dave Gilboa, co-founder and co-CEO of Warby Parker, said: “Advisor is a completely new way to shop for glasses — and makes the experience convenient, personalized, and fun.

“The early feedback and engagement has been overwhelmingly positive, and we can’t wait for more shoppers to experience Advisor for themselves.”

However, a recent study revealed that Americans are developing a growing concern over the use of AI in retail, which raises questions about AI’s effectiveness among consumers.

As part of its initiatives to ramp up its technology use, the company also teamed up with Google to launch a new range of AI-powered glasses.

The new glasses are designed to use multimodal AI tools with prescription and non-prescription lenses, which are set to roll out next year.

Shahram Izadi, General Manager and VP of XR at Google, commented: “Warby Parker’s optical expertise, omnichannel approach, and history of leveraging technology to create beautifully designed products and exceptional customer experiences make them the perfect partner to co-create and launch this next generation of smart glasses on the AndroidXR platform.”

Google is set to invest $75 million into Warby Parker’s product building, subject to the terms and conditions of the partnership, and will add an additional $75 million in funding towards Warby Parker.

Earlier this year, the online retailer partnered with Target for a brick-and-mortar expansion across select stores in the US.
