Kroger plans to close down two restaurants

Kroger has announced that it will close two Kitchen 1883 restaurants on April 24, in a social media post by the grocer.

Details on the reasons behind the store closures have not yet been announced with the two Kitchen 1883 restaurants set to close in Union, Kentucky, and Anderson, Ohio.

However, the grocery chain plans to continue its operations at the Kitchen 1883 restaurant in downtown Cincinnati and sell customers food from its catering service moving forward.

Kroger wrote in a social media post, “This decision was not easy, as Kitchen 1883 has been more than just a place to eat; it has been a place of laughter, memories, and shared meals with friends and family since 2017.”

“We are incredibly grateful for your support, love, and loyalty over the years.”

The Kitchen 1883 restaurants were launched by the grocery chain in 2017 in Kentucky and opened a second location in Anderson Township in 2018, following the success of the first location.

The company aimed to improve customer experience and boost its earnings through the initiative.

The restaurant closure follows several changes to Kroger’s C-suite team, including appointing Joe Kelley as the new SVP of the retail division and tapping Rudy DiPietro as president of Kroger’s Dallas Division.

Meanwhile, Kroger also recently announced its fleet expansion plans to grow its presence in the Midwest with stores in Kentucky and Ohio.

The grocery retailer will also renovate 16 stores as part of its ambitious $130 million investment in its Cincinnati-Dayton division for 2025.
