Wayfair unveils new AI-powered search tool for enhanced browsing

Ecommerce furniture retailer Wayfair has introduced Muse, an AI-powered search tool designed to enhance the home shopping experience by offering personalised design inspiration.

Building on the success of Wayfair’s Decorify app, which allowed customers to explore various interior design styles, Muse generates a range of styles and ideas tailored to individual preferences.

Fiona Tan, chief technology officer at Wayfair, said: “At Wayfair, our goal is to make it easy to create a home that is just right for you, and Muse delivers on that promise.”

“Leveraging generative AI, we aim to elevate our search experience to be the best in the home category—seamlessly blending inspiration and shopping—to reaffirm our position as the premier destination for all things home.”

The AI tool utilizes Wayfair’s broad catalog, giving shoppers a variety of selections and pairing items that create a ‘harmonious and personalized’ space.

Customers can leverage information and inspirational pictures by searching for a specific style, which creates AI imagery and adds suggested items from Wayfair’s products.

After saving the Muse, customers can upload photographs of their space and apply styles to their places, blending web-based shopping with a visual component.

Shrenik Sadalgi, director of research and development at Wayfair, added: “The home category is heavily visual and highly personal, and most people want to start their home personalization journey by simply browsing for ideas.”

“Muse serves that need and is an endless inspiration engine, giving customers the ability to spark an idea, bring their unique visions to life, and even transform their existing spaces—all enabled by AI.

“Muse fosters inspiration and helps you create a home that feels uniquely yours.”

Founded in 2002, the Boston-based company continues to adapt to the changing climate of ecommerce retail, standing out through AI-inspired projects such as Muse.

AI technology is increasingly shaping ecommerce shopping experiences, as global companies adopt various solutions to enhance personalization.
