Walmart de México y Centroamérica (Walmex) has announced an ambitious expansion plan, committing over $6 billion to its Mexican operations in 2025.
This investment will fund the opening of new stores and is expected to generate approximately 5,500 direct jobs, reinforcing Walmart’s presence in the country.
Over the next five years, Walmex plans to add more than 1,500 new stores across Mexico.
Operating under the Bodega Aurrera, Sam’s Club, Walmart Supercenter, and Walmart Express banners, the company will focus primarily on expanding its Bodega Aurrera chain as a key growth driver.
Walmex currently runs more than 3,200 stores across all 32 Mexican states.
In addition to store openings, Walmex is advancing the development of two state-of-the-art distribution centres in the Bajío region and Tlaxcala.
These facilities will integrate robotics and artificial intelligence technology to enhance efficiency and logistics capabilities.
“This announcement strengthens Walmart de México y Centroamérica’s solid purpose to help Mexican families save money and live better, reaffirming our long-term commitment to the country,” the company stated.
Walmex highlighted its contribution to Mexico’s economic growth through a robust supply chain that includes over 33,000 suppliers, with 85% being small and medium-sized enterprises.
“And 83% of the products we sell are proudly ‘Made in Mexico,'” the company added.
This latest investment underscores Walmart’s confidence in the Mexican market and its long-term vision for expansion in the region.
