Food Lion has announced a $270m investment across 94 stores in North Carolina as part of its commitment to improving the experience for customers.
This investment includes the expansion of two new stores, which opened earlier this year in Summerfield and Greensboro, North Carolina.
This move aims to simplify shopping and create an easy omnichannel experience, offering customers more convenient methods of shopping in-store, through pickup, or through deliveries.
As part of the upgrades, there will be self-checkout lanes to offer shoppers flexibility and a wide variety of regional items from local manufacturers.
The business is also investing in employee training and development to improve the overall customer experience.
The supermarket retailer is offering a to-go pickup and home delivery option as a move that aims to bring more convenience. Shoppers can place their online orders through the Food To Go Lion website or on its application.
Greg Finchum, president of Food Lion said: “Food Lion has proudly served the Greater Greensboro and Triad communities for more than 50 years, growing alongside generations of neighbors who have trusted us to be part of their everyday lives.
“These investments are designed for the neighbors who count on us for fresh food, affordable prices, and convenience. We’re also investing in our associates, whose care and dedication make a difference every day.”
As part of its commitment to sustainability, Food Lion’s new stores have energy-efficient LED lighting and refrigerated cases with doors.
To commemorate the opening of the store, Food Lion has provided $375,000 in investments to back three local charitable organizations in the Greater Greensboro and Triad communities.
