Albertsons has announced the appointment of Harmit Singh to the retailer’s board of directors, effective immediately.
He brings decades of experience to the role across financial, operational, and strategic leadership roles across FMCG and hospitality brands.
This marks an expansion of the supermarket’s board from 14 to 15 members. He currently serves as EVP and chief financial and growth officer of Levi’s and will retire from the company on 30 November.
At the denim brand, Harmit oversees finance, transformation office, investor relations, real estate, and franchise expansion.
According to the business, during his tenure he helped manage the company’s return to the public markets in 2019 and the expansion of its international retail footprint.
Additionally, he spent 14 years working at Yum Brands in senior leadership roles, including chief financial officer. He also held financial leadership roles at American Express.
Meg Whitman, executive chair of the board of directors at Albertsons said: “We continue to strengthen our board with capabilities that support Albertsons’ next phase of growth.
“Harmit’s experience improving performance and creating value at complex, consumer-facing companies will be an important asset as we advance our strategy and strengthen execution.”
Singh added: “I am honored to join Albertsons’ boards of directors. Albertsons has a strong legacy, a portfolio of trusted brands, and a clear commitment to serving customers and communities.
“I look forward to working with my fellow directors and the leadership team to support the company’s continued growth and strategic priorities.”
This move is part of the retailer’s business strategy to strengthen its executive team as it pushes towards a financial turnaround.
