Grammy-honoured music exec Jody Gerson joins Gap Inc. board

Gap Inc. has appointed Jody Gerson, CEO of Universal Music Publishing Group, to its board of directors, as the retailer continues efforts to reclaim cultural relevance.

Gerson, named an industry icon by the Grammys earlier this year, has worked with some of music’s biggest names — including Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, Adele, Kendrick Lamar, and SZA.

She also sits on the boards of the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and co-founded the nonprofit She Is The Music.

“I’m energized to support Richard Dickson’s vision and draw inspiration from Gap’s remarkable renaissance,” said Gerson.

Her appointment comes as Gap, once a hallmark of American casualwear, is riding new momentum under CEO Richard Dickson, who joined two years ago.

Gap’s Q2 net sales hit $772 million, with comps up 4%, bolstered by strong showings from Old Navy and Banana Republic, and a culture-driven revival at the core Gap brand.

The brand’s recent “Better in Denim” campaign, featuring creator Katseye, became a viral success, reaching hundreds of millions of views and briefly topping TikTok’s search rankings.

“Her insights into fashiontainment – our platform at the intersection of fashion, music and celebrity – are unmatched,” said Dickson.

“Jody’s ability to amplify voices and shape cultural moments will be invaluable as we continue redefining what it means to be an iconic, purpose-led house of brands.”
