Nike has announced the appointment of former Walmart executive Jane Ewing as the next executive vice president and chief commercial officer, effective from 7 September.
Ewing will report directly to the company’s president and CEO, Elliott Hill, and is set to join the senior leadership team.
She brings decades of experience to the role, joining the sportswear brand after nearly 14 years at Walmart, where she most recently worked as interim CEO for Sam’s Club China.
During her time as interim CEO, she drove the business to top- and bottom-line growth during a leadership transition according to the business.
Additionally, Ewing also held executive leadership positions that spanned across merchandising, digital acceleration, and international operations.
Before working at Walmart, she oversaw a global division at alcohol manufacturer Diageo, and the company delivered double-digit revenue and profit growth at that time.
As part of her new role, she will manage the global marketplace organization, which includes sales and Nike Direct.
Nike’s VP of Global Sales Erica Bullard, VP of Nike Direct Shannon Glass, and VP of Geo & Marketplace Analytics Gail Cornelius will report directly to her.
This appointment is a strategic move that aims to strengthen the overall leadership team as the business pushes towards a turnaround.
Hill said in a statement: “This is an important part of our comeback. Together, these leaders will continue advancing our efforts to create a more connected and integrated marketplace, strengthen partner relationships, elevate consumer experiences across digital and physical retail, and unlock growth opportunities around the world.
“Jane’s experience, leadership, and global perspective will help us continue this work and accelerate growth across Nike Direct and wholesale. Her role is vital to creating even stronger connections between brand, product and marketplace.”
