Dollar General rolls-out AI-planning technology

Dollar General has announced a partnership with technology company Relex solutions to install AI-based planning capabilities across distribution centers and stores.

The discount retailer will use the new AI technology to assist with forecasting, replenishment, and allocation at its operations.

Dollar General’s new AI-driven platform is set to manage inventory stocking, ordering schedules, lead times, supplier coordination, and fulfillment methods in one place.

The discount retailer operates over 21,000 stores and has 34 distribution centers and manages around 18,000 SKUs.

Jeff Vaughan, SVP of global inventory management at Dollar General said: “We chose Relex because it gives us a practical way to use AI in our planning and helps our teams focus on the issues that truly need attention.

“The platform brings forecasting, replenishment, and allocation planning into a single environment, giving our teams greater visibility across the network.”

This discounter aims to improve its overall operations across its systems through a single system that deals with the planning process.

Additionally, the platform will track sales patterns, and other demand factors will be built into the planning process, which consolidates distribution centers and stores data.

Frank Lord, chief revenue officer at Relex Solutions said: “Relex is built to run planning for retailers operating at this scale. Dollar General’s scale and pace, with more than 21,000 stores and a complex distribution network, require planning that is reliable and straightforward.

“Our forecasting and replenishment capabilities handle large SKU volumes and give teams a clear view across the supply chain.”

This comes after the discount retailer Dollar General expanded its retail media offering with new ad tech integration earlier this year.
