JD Sports upgrades supply chain planning with AI tools

UK-based sportswear retailer JD Sports is leveraging AI to make its planning more automated and faster.

JD Sports Fashion, which is under the umbrella of JD Sports, is deploying an AI-based supply chain solution designed by o9 with the goal of optimizing its inventory planning process.

Wim van Aalst, chief supply chain officer at JD Sports Fashion, said: “In today’s ever-changing business environment, building an agile customer offering tailored to local needs that is delivered with speed and efficiency is critical to keeping a competitive edge.

“As we continue growing our business, we look forward to partnering with o9 as they understand our business model and our unique requirements to enhance our assortment planning capabilities.”

The fashion retail will upgrade its supply chains within JD Sports Fashion, Size?, and HIP brands to improve product assortment, lower markdowns, and increase store profitability.

Chakri Gottemukkala, o9 co-founder and CEO, added: “As retailers continue to seek ways to build greater resiliency to mitigate potential risks and pursue emerging opportunities, we’re pleased to work with JD Sports Fashion to provide planning solutions that further enhance agility as the company continues to expand its global footprint.”

In March, global fashion retailer Mango also teamed up with o9 to deploy o9’s Merchandise Financial Planning (MFP), Assortment Planning, and Demand Planning solutions to improve the retailer’s global operations.

It joins the growing list of fashion retailers leveraging AI to upgrade their planning systems.

However, a recent study revealed that there is growing concern over the use of AI in retail among shoppers.
