Estée Lauder appoints Brian Franz as chief technology officer

Estée Lauder Companies has named Brian Franz as its new chief technology, data, and analytics officer on Monday.

In the new role, Franz will oversee the cosmetic retailer’s global IT operations, succeeding the former chief information officer, Michael Smith, who left the company in early April.

Franz will oversee decisions around technology and information and help the company integrate technology into its business structure to improve its performance.

Stéphane de La Faverie, president and CEO of Estée Lauder, said, “As we drive our bold Beauty Reimagined vision, Brian’s deep expertise and fresh perspectives will be pivotal in executing the biggest technology and operational transformation in our company’s history.”

“Brian’s strategic leadership, combined with his passion for innovation and talent development, makes him the ideal leader to shape the future of technology, data, and analytics at The Estée Lauder Companies.”

Franz brings decades of experience to the role, having previously worked at State Street, where he served as EVP, global CIO, and head of enterprise resiliency.

Additionally, he has held various leadership positions in companies, including Diageo PLC and PepsiCo.

The appointment aligns with the cosmetic giant’s plans to leverage technology as part of its business growth plans, with many beauty brands deploying new technology features.

De La Faverie added, “Brian’s experience in modernizing infrastructure, building resilient and sustainable platforms, and advancing AI-driven capabilities will be critical as we accelerate our evolution into a more agile and consumer-focused organization.”

Meanwhile, former Estée Lauder executive Tony Williams recently joined QVC Group’s leadership team as the new chief people officer.
