A group of private investors has acquired Southeastern Grocers and its Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket banners for an undisclosed amount from Aldi US.
The acquisition includes 170 grocery stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi, as well as the Winn-Dixie liquor store business.
The private consortium was led by Anthony Hucker, CEO and president of SEG and C&S wholesale grocers. Hucker will step into the role of chairman, CEO, and president.
Hucker said: “We are profoundly grateful and deeply honored to continue serving the communities we cherish.
“As we reinvest in the store fleet, we are inspired by listening loudly to the voices of our customers to elevate and revolutionize our customer experience and store offerings so that each step we take will reflect our dedication to our people and our communities.”
The private investor group will start to oversee the business operations of Winn-Dixie grocery and liquor stores and Harveys Supermarkets.
Eric Winn, CEO of C&S, added: “This consortium continues C&S and SEG’s longstanding partnership. Our unrelenting focus on long-term growth continues with an exciting opportunity for C&S to invest in and collaborate deeply with the retail market.”
In March 2024, Aldi purchased Southeastern grocers with plans to convert approximately 220 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores to the Aldi banner by 2027.
This was part of its mass expansion strategy to boost business growth across the US, including plans to open over 225 new locations in 2025.
Moving forward, Aldi and SEG leadership plan to collaborate to ensure an effective transition amid store conversions and hiring processes.
