Macy’s has named former Bloomingdale’s executive Daniel Leppo as its new senior vice president and general merchandising manager for men’s and children’s apparel.
Leppo previously served as senior vice president and general merchandising manager at Bloomingdale’s, where he led merchandising for cosmetics, menswear, children’s, and home.
Leppo joined the company as an intern over three decades ago and has held various executive positions at Bloomingdale’s.
The company also made other C-suite changes earlier this year as part of its turnaround plan to improve growth following a mixed performance in its most recent financial quarter.
As general merchandising manager, Leppo will manage the men’s and kid’s merchandise section and lead growth strategies that include diversifying the assortment of apparel in line with customer demand and trends.
Nata Dvir, Macy’s chief merchandising officer, said: “He has over thirty years of retail experience and has demonstrated a remarkable ability to bring products to life.
“With deep expertise in men’s fashion, strong industry partnerships, and a recognized brand builder, I’m confident Dan will successfully lead the men’s and kids’ business.
“As we aim to inspire and excite our customers with our assortment, his work will be crucial in strengthening and reimagining Macy’s in our Bold New Chapter.”
As part of its restructuring efforts shared on an earnings call, the company plans to improve performance by forming partnerships with a variety of brands to increase product assortment, having recently launched Good American apparel at their stores.
Tony Spring, Macy’s chairman and CEO, said: “We are applying learnings across private brand reimagination to deliver more compelling assortments, complemented by an established footprint of contemporary brands.”
Macy’s also recently announced it would close 150 underperforming locations to streamline operations and focus on the company’s well-performing fleet.
