Barbie Cameron announced as Macy’s chief stores officer

Macy’s has appointed Barbie Cameron as its new chief stores officer, drawing on her decades of experience in senior management roles.

Cameron previously served as senior vice president and regional director of stores for the East region, a role she was appointed to in 2020.

In August 2024, she took on the position of interim chief stores officer and has now been promoted to the permanent role.

Cameron began her career at Macy’s as a sales manager and advanced to store manager, with the company noting that her leadership and talent development skills contributed to its success in the dynamic retail industry.

In her new role, she will oversee operations within various areas, including flagships, small format stores, and call center operations.

Adrian Mitchell, chief operating officer and chief financial officer at Macy’s, said: “Barbie is an experienced retailer and has built a strong track record during her 37-year career at Macy’s.

“I am confident that her deep understanding of our customers will continue to drive the Bold New Chapter strategy forward by improving in-store experiences and modernizing Macy’s for today’s consumer. I look forward to continuing to work closely with Barbie and our talented team of Store leaders and colleagues.”

Cameron will also spearhead a strategic change to renovate and update the current stores, improve customer and colleague relations, and upgrade the shopping experience.

As part of its new strategy to drive growth, the department store chain is undergoing a business transformation.

This includes closing 150 underperforming stores by 2026, allowing the company to focus resources and investments on 350 key locations moving forward
