Walmart and Scan Health Plan have announced a strategic collaboration to offer a co-branded Medicare Advantage plan.
The scheme is planned for availability in two states and is expected to serve more than 2m Medicare enrollees.
The collaboration underscores the growing interest among retail and health organizations in combining resources to address the needs of aging populations with integrated health solutions.
According to the announcement, the Medicare Advantage plan will feature a range of benefits, including pharmacy, vision, food, and over-the-counter (OTC) products.
These benefits are subject to regulatory review and approval before being implemented. Scan Health Plan, a non-profit Medicare Advantage plan with over 40 years of experience, will lead the administration and care management aspects of the plan.
Walmart will bring its retail expertise and Everyday Health Signals platform to the collaboration as a retailer with a significant health presence.
Walmart’s Everyday Health Signals platform is as a tool designed to analyse consumer insights and health trends to support personalized health and wellness engagements.
The platform’s role in this strategic collaboration is to enable tailored outreach and service delivery.
Pravene Nath, MD, group director for consumer health and data solutions at Walmart US said: “Walmart has been helping customers navigate Medicare choices for more than a decade.
“What makes this collaboration unique is Walmart’s role in customers’ everyday lives. Because customers regularly turn to Walmart for groceries and other everyday essentials, we have an opportunity for those who choose to participate, to use insights from their shopping experiences to make nutrition guidance more relevant and actionable..
This collaboration exemplifies the emerging trend of partnerships between established healthcare providers and retail companies aiming to create more integrated and accessible health programs.
