Lowe’s has announced the launch of drone delivery in partnership with DoorDash and Wing drones.
The pilot is now live at Lowe’s store in Matthews, NC, and builds on the same-day fulfillment options for customers, including buy online and pick up in store.
The initial pilot runs across a curated list of products, including hand tools and paint products and everyday household essentials, which are easily forgotten.
The launch comes after Wing and DoorDash’s existing drone delivery operations in the Charlotte area.
The home improvement retailer aims to offer convenience for consumers who are currently within a project.
Seemantini Godbole, chief information and AI officer at Lowe’s said: “At Lowe’s, our mission is to solve problems and fulfill dreams for the home. To achieve this mission, we’re removing friction from home improvement and making it easier for customers to enjoy their home. Any technology we implement is designed to eliminate that friction so our customers can complete their projects quickly.
“By piloting drone delivery, we’re addressing a real project pain point with an innovative solution that is integrated into the retail journey, giving our hometown customers next-generation fulfillment right when they need it.”
This is part of Lowe’s commitment to utilize technology to better the overall customer experience and how Lowe’s associates work.
Some aspects of the latest innovation include the AI-powered assistant Mylow Companion and other store associates.
The new feature will deliver select home improvement items directly to DIY and Pro customers in as little as 20 minutes.
