Amazon’s drone delivery is expanding to close to 500 cities and towns by the end of 2026, which marks a sixfold increase from its current footprint.
The online retailer aims to improve convenience for customers by introducing ultrafast drone delivery to communities with tens of millions of shoppers across the country.
Prime Air currently offers drone delivery from 11 US locations across seven locations, including Arizona, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Nebraska, and Texas, with plans to launch in Georgia, Ohio, Illinois, Idaho, and New York soon.
David Carbon, VP of Amazon Prime Air said: “Customers already turn to Amazon for fast same- and next-day delivery, and Prime Air provides them an even speedier option when they need it, with deliveries in as fast as 30 minutes.
“We’ve already delivered hundreds of thousands of packages to customers by drone this year, and by the end of 2026 we plan to reach customers in nearly 500 cities and towns. We’re pairing the convenience of ultrafast drone delivery with the low prices and selection customers love about Amazon.”
Amazon currently plans to launch in the Chicago, Illinois; Syracuse, New York; Cleveland, Ohio; Atlanta, Georgia; and Boise, Idaho, metro areas, with more neighborhoods to come later this year.
The online retailer recently launched Amazon Prime Air in Darlington, England, which marks the first time the drone delivery service has expanded to customers outside of the US.
Amazon’s drone delivery offers a wide range of products, including popular categories such as groceries, cosmetics, medications, and electronics.
The delivery is integrated into the existing Amazon shopping experience within the same app, with the same checkout and the same customer service.
This move is a business strategy from the delivery platform to bring innovation within the category, as it also recently announced a major investment boost in Louisiana data centers.
