Etsy announced that President and Chief Growth Officer Kruti Patel Goyal will succeed Josh Silverman as CEO on 1 January 2026, marking the end of Silverman’s nearly nine-year tenure leading the online marketplace.
Silverman will transition to executive chair of the board.
Goyal, a longtime Etsy executive, previously served as CEO of Depop, the peer-to-peer resale platform Etsy acquired in 2021 for $1.6 billion. After revitalising Depop’s growth, she returned to Etsy earlier this year to lead its growth strategy.
Silverman, who took over in 2017 amid activist pressure and growing competition from Amazon, leaves the company in stronger shape.
For Q3 2025, Etsy reported revenue up more than 6% to $678 million, net income up 32% to $75.5 million, and gross merchandise sales (GMS) of $2.7 billion, excluding Reverb, which it sold earlier this year.
At Etsy, GMS fell 2.4% to $2.4 billion, though transactions via its mobile app grew 5%, nearing half of total GMS. Depop’s GMS surged nearly 40% to $292 million, including a 60% jump in the U.S.
Silverman called Goyal “fabulously talented” and said the leadership transition comes at the right time, as Etsy enters a new phase focused on AI-driven personalisation.
Executives also noted an early boost from Etsy’s partnership with OpenAI, allowing US ChatGPT users to browse and purchase items from Etsy sellers directly within the app, a move Silverman described as well-suited to the brand’s curated, creative marketplace model.
