Champs Sports doubles down on experience and community connection, revealing the revamped store concept in Portland and Tampa, backed by Foot Locker’s strategic ‘Power Up the Portfolio’ plan.
Described by Foot Locker as “inviting and modernised”, the new Champs Sports stores prioritises both profitability and flexibility, integrating digital tools and inclusive design in a layout tailored for the next generation of sportswear retail.
The first two stores, located in Washington Square, Portland and Brandon Exchange in Tampa, aim to merge community with commerce. The concept includes digital storytelling displays, high-impact ‘Premier Walls’ for outfit-building, and upgraded fitting zones.
Associates are equipped with 3D-fit technology to offer customers more accurate recommendations — showing Champs’ intention for a more personalised service.
Foot Locker’s strategy to modernise its store fleet globally, building on the momentum of eight Foot Locker Reimagined stores launched across North America, Europe and Asia.
At the heart of the reimagining is the Champs Run Club, a space to promote movement and local engagement through curated product and group activities. The brand says its approach blends data and experience to create a seamless end-to-end journey that includes family shopping zones, kids and women’s footwear, and accessory zones designed to “complete the look”.
Tony Aversa, senior vice president and general manager of Champs Sports, said the brand is aiming to set a new standard. “Tampa and Portland are dynamic markets, making them ideal locations to reflect our Sport For Life brand ethos and elevate how we serve communities,” he said.
Nike, a key launch partner, will co-host grand opening events in both cities: July 26–27 in Portland and August 9–10 in Tampa. These will include live entertainment, giveaways, customisation services and Run Club community races starting and finishing at the new stores.
