Walmart has launched an AI tool to assist designers with creating trendy and affordable apparel within six to eight weeks by identifying trends and conducting automated research.
The retailer aims to shorten the research time for developing new apparel products by gathering and analyzing global data and trends from the internet and creators with its generative AI features.
Jen Jackson Brown, SVP for apparel brand and design at Walmart US, said: “Trend-to-Product empowers our private brand design and product development associates to spend less time chasing trends and more time doing what they love most—creating and delivering high-quality, on-trend items for our customers for every season and occasion.”
The AI tool, coined Trend-to-Product by Walmart, aims to increase speed by creating mood boards for designers with collection names, colors, textures, and ideas. Merchants can access the data and edit the mood boards to design apparel for the collection.
At the end of the process, the AI tool then creates a fashion tech pack with a step-by-step guide on how to create the product for designers, shortening the process by weeks.
Vinod Bidarkoppa, the EVP and chief technology officer at Walmart, added: “Walmart has continued to invest in cutting-edge AI and GenAI technologies to make the lives of our customers, members, and associates easier.”
“Trend-to-Product is the latest example of how these technologies drive optimization and, when combined, can revolutionize an entire business line or industry.”
This development aligns with the company’s commitment to leveraging technology to optimize performance, recently launching another AI tool, Wally.
