Uniqlo has launched an initiative aimed at keeping unwanted clothing out of landfills by partnering with Piece of Cake Moving & Storage and SuperCircle.
Under the program, called UNtrash It, customers moving with Piece of Cake Moving will receive designated bags for their unwanted apparel, which will be collected on moving day and sent to Uniqlo’s Re.Uniqlo program.
The collected garments will be sorted for donation, upcycling, or recycling through SuperCircle’s processing system.
Shoppers who are not relocating can still participate by dropping off pre-worn Uniqlo items at any of the brand’s stores across the US, where the Re.Uniqlo bins are available for collection.
“Uniqlo is committed to taking responsibility for the clothing it manufactures and sells,” the company stated in its announcement.
“It has been collecting pre-worn Uniqlo items from customers to be reused or recycled for over 20 years.
“Re.Uniqlo is an initiative that gives pre-worn clothing new life and new value, providing customers with various solutions to appreciate and use clothing for a long time.”
This latest initiative aligns with Uniqlo’s broader sustainability efforts.
Uniqlo operates 2,500 stores worldwide, including 68 locations in the US as of November 30, 2024.
