Lowe’s has partnered with AI research organization OpenAI to create a virtual assistant for homeowners, which is a conversational AI agent available to MyLowe’s loyalty members.
The AI tool, named Mylow, aims to help customers answer questions about home improvement, including project planning and optimizing product searches.
Mylow was developed by OpenAI and leverages Lowe’s knowledge to offer customers practical solutions and planned steps for projects related to home improvement.
Seemantini Godbole, chief digital and information officer at Lowe’s, said: “Home improvement is inherently complex and can feel overwhelming even for the most experienced DIYer—that’s why Lowe’s has invested in AI and emerging technologies to create solutions that truly help our customers.
“We’re aiming to deliver the best customer service in retail, and Mylow represents an industry-leading step forward in helping us do that.”
Customers will also be able to refine recommendations based on budget and location specifications.
Additionally, the conversational answers will feature links to related products to assist customers in purchasing the right tools and materials for their home development projects.
The AI agent is available on desktops and will soon be available on other devices and platforms, according to the company.
The launch of the AI tool follows the introduction of the Digital Home Platform in November 2024, which aimed to help homeowners with free personalized information about products in their home.
Chandhu Nair, SVP of technology at Lowe’s, added: “We’re doubling down with emerging technology collaborators like OpenAI to solve problems for our customers and because we want the home improvement experience at Lowe’s to be a cut above.”
Lowe’s currently operates 1,748 stores and reported strong earnings in its most recent financial quarter.
