Walmart is gaining momentum as an online shopping destination, with new data from Coresight research revealing that over half (60%) of Amazon Prime members bought online groceries from Walmart.
Walmart was revealed as the top retailer for e-commerce grocery shopping, with over half (58%) of consumers buying from Walmart, compared to 45% at Amazon and 18% from Kroger banners.
The research revealed that only half (52%) of Prime members purchased groceries from Amazon’s online platform.
Walmart’s members are more likely to purchase from the retailer, with over three-quarters (79%) of Walmart+ members buying groceries from the website.
However, the number of participants in online shopping dipped over the past 12 months from 56.3% to 53.6%.
According to the data, almost 31% of respondents do all or most of their shopping through websites, which is a 10% increase year-over-year.
Overall, the results showed that Walmart finished off as the number one online shopping destination, with Amazon in second place and Target and Costco following.
Walmart has been investing in developing its mobile application and online shopping experience to improve customer satisfaction.
The retail giant recently debuted an AI-powered assistant Sparky to enhance the customer experience on its app.
Walmart is also ramping up its technology use to deliver speedy and efficient service, recently teaming up with Wing to expand its drone delivery service in the Southeast region.
