Kroger updates long-term business plans

Kroger has updated its business strategy to focus on three main segments to improve its overall financial performance.

Moving forward, the grocery retailer plans to invest in strong departments, including fresh and meals, and aims to grow private-label brands as well as boost membership.

Kroger aims to drive its e-commerce sales and retail media revenue with the goal of acquiring more customers through online shopping.

Additionally, the grocer plans to generate savings by making more disciplined purchases, streamlining operations, and utilizing technology and AI to better overall execution.

The business has created an updated financial framework and expects a 3 per cent comparable sales growth in 2029, excluding fuel and pharmacy.

Greg Foran, CEO of Kroger said: “Kroger has a clear opportunity to unlock our full potential and build America’s favorite grocery.

“We are making value more visible and focusing resources closer to the customer where we see the highest returns.

“With our customers at the center, we are simplifying and modernizing our business to deliver a great customer experience and provide long-term value to our shareholders.”

The company is targeting an adjusted EBITDA Compound Annual Growth Rate of between 3 per cent and 6 per cent for the next two years.

Kroger is now focusing on making high-value growth investments, maintaining financial momentum, and returning surplus capital to shareholders through dividends.

David Kennerley, CFO of Kroger added: “Our financial framework reflects our renewed focus on the core grocery business and provides a clearer line of sight from operating performance to shareholder value.

“We are targeting higher sales by 2029, with stronger adjusted EBITDA and adjusted EPS growth over the next three years. We remain focused on delivering customer value in a fully self-funded way, prioritizing high-return investments and disciplined cost savings so we can expand margins over time while continuing to invest in growth.”
