Walmart has opened a new next-generation Supercenter in Jacksonville, Fla., expanding its footprint in the state’s largest city as it accelerates store growth nationwide.
The new store is located in the Oakleaf Plantation master-planned community and features a refreshed design, broader assortments across key categories and enhanced omnichannel capabilities.
Walmart said the Supercenter blends physical and digital shopping to create a more seamless customer experience.
The Jacksonville opening follows the recent debut of a Supercenter in Apollo Beach and a Neighborhood Market in Ocala.
Together, the stores are part of Walmart’s plan to build or convert more than 150 locations in the coming years. In Florida, Walmart operates 390 stores and employs about 120,500 workers.
The Jacksonville Supercenter is expected to create roughly 400 jobs.
New features include delivery in as little as an hour, including prescriptions, expanded pickup options, a more open store layout, and interactive digital touchpoints designed to improve in-store navigation.
The location also offers an expanded home and apparel assortment, elevated fashion brands, and a full grocery experience with a bakery, deli and fresh sushi bar. Community-specific merchandise tied to Oakleaf Plantation is also available.
“Today is a proud moment for our team and the Jacksonville community,” said store manager Brian Jackson. “We’re opening a new store that brings fresh opportunities and growth to the area while delivering a next-generation retail experience.”
The opening caps a milestone month for Walmart. On Feb. 1, John Furner became president and CEO of Walmart Inc., succeeding Doug McMillon, who had led the company since 2014.
Two days later, Walmart surpassed a $1 trillion market capitalization, becoming just the 10th U.S. company, and only the second non-tech firm, to reach that level.
