Discount grocery chain Aldi has announced that its COO, Atty McGrath, will step into the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective on September 1.
This appointment follows the promotion of Jason Hart, Aldi’s current CEO, to step into the role of Group Chief Operating Officer in Salzburg, Austria.
Hart commented: “I am honored to take on this new role with ALDI, supporting our global business.
“The growth and positive development of the ALDI brand we’ve achieved together in the US is a tribute to our incredible teams across the business. I look forward to working with ALDI teams around the globe to drive our growth and success.”
As part of her role as CEO, she will lead Aldi’s ambitious expansion plans moving forward. Earlier this year, Aldi announced plans to open 800 new stores by 2028.
In the upcoming 2025 fiscal year, the discount retailer plans to open 220 new stores.
McGrath added: “On behalf of the entire ALDI US team, I extend heartfelt thanks to Jason for his unwavering dedication and remarkable leadership.
“I am excited to build upon our momentum, expand our footprint, and continue adapting to serve our customers.”
Aldi has been thriving amid inflationary pressures squeezing in on consumer spending, with other discount retailers including Costco, Dollar Tree, and Dollar General also outperforming during the challenging economic environment.
The grocery chain expanded its presence in the Midwest this year, with two new stores in Las Vegas, and is poised to continue to grow its retail footprint to meet the growing demand for affordable products.
