McDonald’s to raise prices as tariff pressures grow

McDonald’s is rolling out extended late-night hours across the US this summer, as it looks to reignite customer traffic following a recent dip in domestic sales.

According to a company spokesperson, “a vast majority” of McDonald’s restaurants will remain open until at least midnight or later.

The exception will be non-traditional locations such as those in airports and shopping malls, which will continue operating during standard breakfast hours.

Most of the chain’s core menu will be available during the new hours, though franchisees will have flexibility in determining specific offerings.

To mark the change, McDonald’s is launching a giveaway on 24 May, handing out merchandise and free McCrispy Strips gift cards in Los Angeles, New York City and Detroit.

The company is also offering 1,000 virtual gift cards to fans who enter via Instagram using the hashtag #DipforMcCrispyStripsGiveaway and tag @GoFooji.

The decision to expand hours comes shortly after McDonald’s revealed plans to hire around 375,000 new employees this summer.

It also follows the company’s sharpest US sales drop since the height of the pandemic, with a 3.6% decline in the latest quarter.

“McDonald’s has a 70-year legacy of innovation, leadership, and proven agility, all of which give us confidence in our ability to navigate even the toughest of market conditions and gain market share,” CEO Chris Kempczinski said in a statement.

The extended hours initiative signals an effort to draw more customers amid growing consumer caution and economic uncertainty.
