WHSmith North America enhances inventory management with Aptos

WHSmith North America has adopted Aptos’ suite of cloud-based solutions to improve inventory control and enable data-driven decision-making across its retail operations.

The retailer is focusing on expanding its presence in North America, with numerous new store openings in the pipeline to support this growth.

To strengthen its IT infrastructure and improve operational efficiency, WHSmith has transitioned from an on-premises system to a cloud-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) framework.

The company has implemented the latest versions of Aptos’ merchandising, warehouse management and sales audit applications, alongside Aptos Analytics for a comprehensive view of its enterprise data.

Joshua Bellendir, CIO and senior vice president at WHSmith North America, said: “WHSmith North America is charting an exciting path forward — and that path requires a technology foundation that is scalable and modern.

“Having relied on Aptos’ merchandising, WMS and sales audit solutions for years, we recognised the significant benefits of migrating these applications to the cloud while also enhancing our capabilities with Aptos Analytics.”

The shift to the cloud has already resulted in noticeable improvements, such as faster data processing speeds, which enhance decision-making, and increased system stability.

Bellendir added: “By embracing a SaaS-first approach, we can accelerate innovation, reduce on-premise infrastructure costs and seamlessly scale to support new locations, formats and channels as needed.

“Aptos’ solutions work together to provide precise visibility into inventory levels and demand. This helps us position products where they’re needed most, improving on-shelf availability and driving business results.”

WHSmith North America’s expansion strategy includes over 340 specialty stores across North American airports and resorts.

Following the completion of the sale of its UK high street division in March 2025, the company is now focused on continuing its growth within the travel retail sector.
