Online resale marketplace eBay is expanding its payment options by partnering with Klarna to provide customers with greater choice at checkout.
Klarna is an AI-powered payment and ecommerce network that will allow customers to split payments for expensive products and accessories, including luxury watches.
Avritti Khandurie Mittal, VP & GM of global payments and financial services at eBay, said, “eBay is where people come to shop with purpose — whether they’re looking for value, rare finds, or sustainable options such as a refurbished camera, hard-to-find car part, or a vintage handbag.”
“We are thrilled to expand our global strategic partnership with Klarna to the US. We’ve been very pleased with the positive customer and business impact Klarna has delivered in some of our key markets, including the UK and Europe.”
Customers on the online thrifting market will be able to purchase their products using Klarna’s Pay in 4 offering, enabling them to split the cost of the item in four interest-free instalments.
David Sykes, chief commercial officer at Klarna, added, “eBay is one of the world’s largest and most dynamic marketplaces, offering everything from the everyday to the extraordinary.”
“We look forward to expanding our partnership to give millions of U.S. shoppers greater flexibility to purchase what they love—from rare collectibles to that vintage coat they’ve been eyeing—whenever, however, and in smarter, more personalized ways.”
The news follows the integration of Klarna’s flexible payment system by major discount retailer Walmart and the food delivery app DoorDash.
Meanwhile, a recent survey predicted that the US thrifting market is set to skyrocket to $74 billion by 2029.
