JCPenney to close eight stores in 2025

JCPenney is preparing to close eight of its roughly 650 stores across the US by mid-2025, according to a report by USA Today.

The retailer confirmed that these closures are not connected to its recent merger with SPARC Group.

Earlier this year, JCPenney merged with SPARC Group, a partnership that includes Authentic Brands Group, Simon Property Group and Shein.

Together, they formed Catalyst Brands, which now oversees JCPenney as well as SPARC’s portfolio of labels, such as Aéropostale, Brooks Brothers, Eddie Bauer, Lucky Brand, and Nautica.

“The decision to close a store is never an easy one, but isolated closures do happen from time to time due to expiring lease agreements, market changes or other factors,” JCPenney said in a statement.

“These closures are unrelated to the recent Catalyst Brands merger.”

The affected locations include stores in San Bruno, California, Denver, Colorado, Pocatello, Idaho, Topeka, Kansas, Annapolis, Maryland, Newington, New Hampshire, Asheville, North Carolina, and Charleston, West Virginia.
