Amazon announced a major recruitment drive of 300,000 seasonal, part-time, and full-time workers for the upcoming holiday period.
This marks an increase from last year’s 250,000 employees that were hired to help with operations with the network across the country.
The new job posts will be advertised weekly from October through December, and candidates will be able to apply on the retailer’s website.
The seasonal workers will be able to earn an average of $20 per hour and access a range of benefits with the chance to transition into full-time roles.
Amazon pays its full-time operating employees $20 per hour, with the potential of an hourly pay reaching close to $24.
The e-commerce platform will expand its staff benefits by giving workers access to healthcare coverage on their first day.
Alongside the new healthcare benefit, the employees will receive a discount on groceries and everyday essentials on Amazon.
According to the business, the discounts can be combined with existing prime member savings.
J. Ofori Agboka, VP, people said in a written statement: “Seasonal roles give people the opportunity to earn, work flexible schedules, and be part of the team during our busiest time of year. For some, it’s a job for the season. For others, it becomes the start of a longer career at Amazon.
“Career Choice is helping eligible Amazon employees earn certifications and launch new aerospace careers with Amazon Leo.
“Each year, we welcome seasonal employees who go on to become trainers, managers, and leaders across our operations network. Programs like Career Choice can help teammates gain new skills, earn degrees or certificates, and prepare for what comes next—whether that future is at Amazon or somewhere else.”
This move comes as retailers are ramping up their seasonal hiring drives ahead of the busy festive season.
