Amazon is expanding its Career Choice programme with new professional credential offerings designed to support workforce development and employee career mobility.
The enhanced programme will introduce six high-demand pathways: clean energy, cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, education, and healthcare.
The credential programmes, delivered through providers including Stanford Online, Purdue University, Western Governors University, and the SANS Institute, become available for enrolment in October 2026.
They specifically target US-based Amazon employees who hold bachelor’s degrees and meet certain prerequisites. These programmes are intended primarily for experienced professionals seeking to pivot their careers.
Career Choice offers tuition assistance up to an annual benefit maximum. Most of the courses are designed to be completed within 18 months or less and are structured to accommodate employees working full time.
Originally launched in 2012 for Amazon’s operations employees, Career Choice was expanded in January 2026 to include corporate employees. To date, the programme boasts more than 300,000 participants across 16 countries and engages over 600 education partners.
Amazon positions these new credentials as facilitating connections between participants and opportunities at Amazon or other employers actively recruiting in these fields.
This initiative reflects broader trends in employer-led workforce development, with an emphasis on retention, talent mobility, and strategic skills planning in sectors facing significant labour demand.
While the expansion underscores Amazon’s commitment to employee development, the eligibility criteria and potential cost-sharing for advanced programmes highlight a measured approach to balancing investment with employee career advancement.
