Heritage Grocers Group has named David Hinojosa as its new chief executive, concluding a leadership search that began roughly six months ago.
The California-based operator of Hispanic-focused grocery banners tapped Hinojosa to succeed former CEO Suzy Monford, who stepped down last summer after less than a year in the role.
Hinojosa joins the company from Vallarta Supermarkets, where he served as chief operating officer for nearly three years. Prior to that, he held senior leadership roles at ShopRite, including executive VP of perishables and executive VP of operations.
His experience also includes international roles, serving as executive VP at Metcash in Sydney and later as COO of Makro in Bangkok. Earlier in his career, Hinojosa spent more than 16 years at H-E-B.
“Over the past several months, the board set out to identify a leader who brings exceptional industry experience and genuinely reflects the values that define Heritage Grocers Group,” said David Hirz, chairman of the board.
“David’s operational expertise, humble servant-leadership style, and deep experience in Hispanic and community-focused retail is deeply aligned with our commitment to authenticity, freshness and affordability.”
Under Hinojosa’s leadership, the company said it plans to accelerate growth across its banners while continuing to invest in fresh food offerings, operational improvements and community-focused retail experiences.
“It is an honor and a privilege to join Heritage Grocers Group,” Hinojosa said. “Heritage’s commitment to serving diverse communities, honoring culture, and delivering exceptional fresh food reflects the values that have guided my career.
I look forward to building on the strong foundation already in place while working alongside our talented teams to drive growth, innovation, and meaningful value for the families and communities we proudly serve.”
Headquartered in Ontario, Heritage Grocers Group operates 115 stores across six states: California, Texas, Nevada, Arizona, Kansas and Illinois.
Its portfolio includes 58 stores under the Cardenas Markets banner, 29 under El Rancho Supermercado, 21 under Tony’s Fresh Market and seven under Los Altos Ranch Market.
