Thrive Market taps Amazon vet as new COO

Online specialty grocer Thrive Market has announced that Scott Lescher, a former Amazon executive, will take on the role of its first Chief Operating Officer.

Lescher brings years of experience to the role, having previously served at Amazon for over 15 years, where he led the growth of Amazon Prime’s delivery program.

Additionally, he oversaw major projects such as Amazon Fresh’s national expansion and has served in multiple leadership positions during his time at the company.

A spokesperson for Thrive Market told Supermarket News: “At Thrive Market, Scott will lead our next phase of operational scale, driving capacity expansion and operational improvements to fuel our next chapter of profitable growth as we continue to expand both our member base and operational capabilities.”

Moving forward, he will oversee operations and supply chain improvements, which are aimed at supporting membership growth for the online grocery retailer.

The online grocery retailer aims to continue expanding its membership base as it gains momentum in the specialty retail market.

The announcement comes on the heels of a strong performance for the company in its first quarter.

Thrive Market recently reported successful first-quarter results with a revenue growth of $1 million after offering more payment options for its customers with SNAP payments in February 2024. The e-commerce grocer currently supplies over 1.6 million members.

Meanwhile, e-commerce giant Amazon is making changes to its workforce, recently downsizing its employees in its books division.

Additionally, there are reports of Amazon developing robotic technology, which will drive an automation push that will replace human jobs within the workforce.
