Universal Standard debuts at Nordstrom

Women’s apparel brand Universal Standard has expanded into 20 Nordstrom stores after launching on the retailer’s website in January.

A collection of apparel from Universal Standard will be available at select locations, including Seattle, the Mall of America in Minneapolis, Michigan Avenue in Chicago, Alderwood in Lynnwood, and the Houston Galleria.

Nordstrom now features 10 styles of the direct-to-consumer brand’s apparel in different categories across denim, work apparel, and formal wear in sizes 12 to 32, according to a statement emailed to Retail Dive.

The company will continue to add more pieces from its collection every month through September.

Polina Veksler, co-founder and CEO of Universal Standard, said: “For too long, the fashion industry has been defined by exclusivity, but at Universal Standard, we’re dismantling this outdated norm and democratizing the shopping experience to celebrate all customers, regardless of size.

“I could not be more thrilled to partner with Nordstrom, one of the world’s most well-established retailers, to expand our mission and make exceptional fashion accessible to more shoppers than ever before.”

Universal Standard has had a long-term partnership with Nordstrom, previously hosting styling pop-ups at the fashion retailer’s stores across the US in 2017.

Additionally, the inclusive women’s apparel brand is building its partnership with wholesalers and is set to launch at retailers across the US, including Anthropologie, Nuuly, Macy’s, and Wantables.

Veksler added: “When it comes to wholesale partnerships, we remain dedicated to offering the most inclusive shopping experience possible and strategically tailoring the buy-in to ensure the inventory we provide meets the demand of the retailer’s customer base, while also expanding access for every shopper, regardless of size.”

Nordstrom currently operates 360 stores across the US and reported strong earnings in its most recent financial quarter ahead of its transition into a private company.
