Ikea and Taskrabbit enhance partnership for simpler furniture assembly

Ikea has expanded its partnership with Taskrabbit, allowing customers to book and pay for furniture assembly when purchasing items in-store or online.

The collaboration, which started in 2017, is designed to simplify the process of assembling flat-packed furniture. Customers can now directly arrange for Taskrabbit’s services during checkout.

“Taskrabbit’s assembly service has been a game-changer for our customers, offering them convenience and reliability, two must-haves when shopping at Ikea,” Javier Quiñones, CEO of Ikea US, said in a statement.

“This integration also provides Ikea with a competitive advantage — we’ve seen improved customer satisfaction and increased sales as customers include assembly with their furniture purchase.”

Previously, customers had to separately visit Taskrabbit to confirm and pay for assembly services. However, the new integration allows them to book and pay for assembly directly at checkout with clear pricing.

The service is now available at Ikea locations in major US cities and in Canada, Spain, and the UK.

Early results show a significant boost in adoption, with 50% more shoppers opting for assembly at the time of purchase. The change has also increased the average order value by nearly five times and contributed to a 40% drop in returns of complex furniture items.

Encouraged by the success, Taskrabbit is now looking to expand beyond Ikea.

“We’re excited to bring Taskrabbit’s assembly service to more Ikea locations, offering customers a reliable, hassle-free solution that enhances their overall shopping experience,” Ana Smith, CEO of Taskrabbit, added.

“Longer term, our goal is to scale our offering to additional retailers to provide scalable, high-quality services that surpass customer expectations and drive meaningful value to our partners.”
