Walmart debuts ‘Auto Care Centers of the Future’

Walmart is rolling out a next-generation car care experience that blends in-person service with digital convenience.

The retailer has opened the first of 10 planned “Auto Care Centers of the Future” at a supercenter in Fayetteville, Arkansas, introducing a fully mobile-integrated model that allows customers to schedule, check in, and track their car service directly through the Walmart app.

“We’ve built Auto Care Centers around value and convenience,” said Corey Bender, senior vice president of hardlines at Walmart US.

“By adding new technology, we’re giving customers the same trusted service — now with a seamless experience that fits their lifestyles.”

Here’s how it works: Customers can schedule appointments through the app by navigating to “services” and selecting “auto services.”

Upon arrival, they check in via the app, unlock an assigned locker, and drop off their keys. They can then track live updates on their car’s progress and are notified when it’s ready for pickup and payment.

The new format builds on Walmart’s nationwide network of 2,582 Auto Care Centers, which offer services such as oil changes and tire installations.

The company aims to make car maintenance as easy as ordering groceries or scheduling vaccinations, all within its app.

Tracy Poulliot, senior vice president of shopping experience at Walmart US added: “We know our customers are busy, and we want to make their lives a little easier every day.

“The Walmart app is a place where you can do it all — whether it’s booking a car service, picking up your groceries, or scheduling a flu shot.”

Walmart continues to expand its automotive services ecosystem. In 2024, the retailer began allowing customers to purchase tires from third-party sellers on Walmart Marketplace and have them shipped directly to local Walmart stores for installation.

The initiative added more than 12,000 new tire options to its assortment, bringing nearly 40,000 installation-eligible offers across 2,300 locations.
