Google launches AI Mode to power conversational shopping

Google is introducing a new artificial intelligence shopping tool that lets consumers search using natural, conversational language.

The feature, called AI Mode, allows US shoppers to describe what they want, the same way they might talk to a friend — and receive a range of visual results without needing to click through filters.

Because the experience is multimodal, shoppers can also upload or snap a photo to start a search. Each result includes a clickable image linking directly to a retailer’s site for purchase.

Results are powered by Google’s Shopping Graph — a real-time dataset with more than 45 billion listings and inventory updates every two hours — alongside Google Gemini generative AI models.

The launch builds on Google’s recent AI shopping initiatives. In March 2025, the company debuted Vision Match, which generates images of a described garment and links to shoppable products.

In November 2024, Google updated Google Lens to enhance AI-driven image recognition, helping users identify items in-store, check price competitiveness, and read reviews.

With AI Mode, Google continues to expand its efforts to make online shopping more intuitive, visual, and seamless.
