Primark marks decade in the US with expansion into new states and flagship leases

Fashion retailer Primark is celebrating a decade in the US market by expanding its physical store footprint, with 18 new lease signings and plans to enter Minnesota for the first time, including a store at the Mall of America in Bloomington.

The UK-based company currently operates 33 stores across the United States, having launched its first location in Boston in 2015. The new leases span several key retail centres, including:

  • Brandon Exchange – Brandon, Florida

  • Vineland Premium Outlets – Orlando, Florida

  • Sugarloaf Mills – Lawrenceville, Georgia

  • Mall of America – Bloomington, Minnesota

This expansion follows the opening of a flagship store in Manhattan’s Herald Square last year and a new office in downtown Boston earlier this year.

Primark came to the United States a decade ago very deliberate in our approach, testing and learning to ensure that as we continued to expand our footprint in-market, we were getting it just right for US shoppers,” said Kevin Tulip, president of Primark US.

Primark’s low-price fashion model has found growing appeal among US consumers, particularly amid inflationary pressure.

Last year, the retailer launched its first American brand campaign, “That’s So Primark,” aimed at building awareness with budget-conscious shoppers.

Primark is also pushing forward with its sustainability strategy, “Primark Cares,” which includes goals to use 100% recycled or sustainably sourced materials by 2030 while also halving carbon emissions across its value chain and ensuring a living wage for workers in its supply chain.

Founded in 1969, Primark continues to position itself as a destination for affordable, trend-led fashion, with the US remaining a key growth market.
