Primark to host repair workshops across the US

Primark has announced the launch of recycling and repair workshops in the US, aimed at improving sustainability and eco-friendly practices among its shoppers.

The initiative debuted in 2022 as part of the Primark Cares sustainability strategy in its European branches.

The workshops are set to roll out in New York City and Washington, DC, and will feature lessons on upcycling, including fixing hems and repairing buttons.

Additionally, the fashion retailer will offer a free sewing kit, repair booklet, and reusable tote bag.

It is set to debut at the Primark store in Staten Island Mall, and another workshop will take place at Tyson’s Corner Center in Washington, DC, on June 12.

Lynne Walker, Director of Primark Cares, said: “Bringing our free Love It for Longer repair workshops across the pond to the US has been a long-held ambition for us.

“We know people want to make their clothes last longer but often just need a little help getting started. These workshops give them that, because sustainability shouldn’t be out of reach for anyone.”

Kevin Tulip, Primark’s US president, President added: “We know that educating customers on repair is a small step in our journey to become a more sustainable business, but through our scale, we can reach many people and hopefully spark some change in how people care for and wear their clothes.”

The Ireland-founded fast fashion giant is strengthening its presence in the US, recently opening doors to new locations in South Carolina and Georgia.

Moving forward, Primark plans to expand to around 60 stores in the US by the end of 2026.
