Temu has announced a new partnership with Eurofins Consumer Product Testing to strengthen its focus on product safety and following regulations.
The collaboration will see Eurofins provide critical support in certifying products and inspecting goods across various categories, in a bid to improve quality standards and rebuild consumer trust.
As part of the initiative, Eurofins will conduct product testing and certification as sellers onboard with the platform.
Inspections will cover a range of categories including apparel, jewellery, toys, furniture and electronics.
Specific tests will cover toy safety, children’s product certificate, adult clothing standards, general certificate of conformity, outdoor furniture safety, en581-1, and checks for electronic product safety, emc and rohs compliance.
“At Temu, we are dedicated to providing a secure and reliable shopping experience,” a spokesperson for the company said.
“Strengthening our product safety measures is a key priority, and by working with Eurofins Consumer Product Testing and Eurofins Assurance, we are reinforcing our commitment to ensuring that products on our platform meet high safety and compliance standards.”
The partnership comes at a time when Temu faces ongoing scrutiny over the safety of some items sold through its marketplace.
In September 2024, two commissioners from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission called for a probe into overseas ecommerce sites, specifically citing Temu and Shein, amid concerns about hazardous goods.
The episode sparked debate about who bears responsibility for unsafe products sold via third-party platforms, with Amazon later launching legal action against the regulator over its own marketplace obligations.
Temu’s decision to work with Eurofins appears to be a strategic attempt to address those concerns through external validation and quality oversight.
