Books-A-Million appoints new CIO to lead technology strategy

Books-A-Million, the second-largest book retailer in the United States, has announced the promotion of Brandon Waters to chief information officer.

Waters, who has stepped into the role immediately, will oversee the company’s technology strategy and initiatives, with a focus on driving innovation across IT, including AI advancements.

He will also continue managing project management and business intelligence teams.

Waters, a seasoned industry veteran, rejoined Books-A-Million in June 2024 as senior vice president of IT.

In this role, he has led several critical digital initiatives, including those related to financials, supply chain, and merchandising, while enhancing operational efficiency.

Before his return, Waters spent over four years at Milo’s Tea Company and held various tech-focused roles at Books-A-Million from 2004 to 2020.

His contributions to the company’s ecommerce platform, mobile app, and loyalty program have been pivotal in its growth, according to the retailer.

“Brandon’s rapid impact since rejoining BAM! has been truly impressive,” said Terrance Finley, CEO of Books-A-Million.

“His strategic vision, technical expertise, and dedication to our company’s success make him the ideal leader for our IT department. We are confident that he will continue to drive innovation and enhance our technological capabilities as CIO.”

Books-A-Million operates more than 200 stores across 32 states, as well as its ecommerce platform.
