H&M Group has named Diego Teijeiro Ruiz as its next chief information officer, effective May 25, as the retailer continues to strengthen its technology leadership.
Teijeiro Ruiz will report directly to CEO Daniel Ervér and replaces Ellen Svanström, who previously announced plans to step down and has remained in post to support the transition.
The new CIO joins from Inditex, where he spent nearly two decades, most recently serving as global chief data and analytics officer.
His background spans data, analytics and large-scale retail systems — areas that are increasingly central to H&M’s transformation strategy.
The retailer said his experience will support efforts to enhance the customer experience across channels while strengthening its underlying technology infrastructure.
The appointment follows another recent C-suite addition, with H&M naming David von Heijne as chief supply chain officer earlier this year, a newly created role aimed at improving operational efficiency.
The leadership changes come amid ongoing challenges. H&M reported first-quarter sales down 1% year over year in local currencies and approximately 10% in Swedish krona.
The company is also continuing to optimise its store portfolio, ending the quarter with around 4% fewer locations compared to the previous year.
The CIO appointment signals a continued push toward digital and operational modernisation, as H&M looks to better integrate data, technology and supply chain capabilities to support omnichannel growth and improve performance in a competitive apparel market.
